      This type of chair is turning up at antique stores in North America and Europe, selling for $1000 - $10,000 per chair.  Many of these 200 to 300 year old chairs are still intact, and highly valued by sophisticated &  knowledgeable buyers.

Construction Methods

      Our chairs and stools are built in the traditional manner using hand tools and tapered, tenoned legs that are driven and keyed into the seat with a wedge.

Finishes:

  • Choice of  traditional milk paint colors: off-white, green, blue, yellow,   brick-red and black.   
  • Non-traditional natural finishes which show the grain. 
  • Traditional finish of oil, shellac and wax.
  • By request, lacquer or varnish.

  •  Stick Stool:  $150.00 unfinished.     Optional finish $50.00.

Woods:

  • Seats -  elm, sycamore, poplar, ash, silver maple, basswood or walnut.
  • Legs - split from logs, usually red oak, white oak, ash, pecan, locust, red bud or hard maple. 
  • Spindles - red oak, ash, pecan, locust or white oak for strength.
  • Bow arms -  ash, red oak, elm, pecan, poplar or white oak.
  • Crests - many suitable hardwoods:  ash, oak, birch, maple and many others.
  • Rungs -  strong hardwoods such as ash, maple, locust, red bud, hickory and red oak to withstand the stresses and strains imposed upon the seat.
